Citrus County Speedway - “Virtual Drivers Meeting”
On behalf of Citrus County Speedway’s owners, officials, and staff, we want to take this opportunity to welcome (you), the Driver, as well as your crew, family, car owners, sponsors and friends! Our mission here at Citrus County Speedway is: “To bring local short track racing back to life” and, with a bit of luck, provide a pleasurable racing experience for you along the way. As your Race/Competition Director, I want to assure all drivers of our commitments to you.
Commitment #1: Consistency - We can all agree that no-one wants flip-flop decisions or erratic policy pertaining to race procedures. While it might be impossible to maintain 100% consistency, I want to set the bar high and show that it is our highest commitment to you. Example: A lot of discrepancies at racetracks occur on the track resulting from the official’s call on a given yellow-flag, wreck or incident. Most racetracks use one of two methods to follow when making race stopping contact/accident calls. They either use a “Total-Judgement” procedure on who is at fault and who gets penalized, or they use a “All-Involved” procedure on who gets penalized. For a couple of reasons, we decided early-on that we would consistently implement the “All Involved” procedure for dealing with the yellow/red flag incidents for the racing season. (For details, please refer to: Yellow Flag Rules-> Spinner/Spinee, and Tap-Out Rule)
Commitment #2: Impartiality - Firm but Impartial, with no favoritism to be shown, and to be fair to all drivers, is among my highest priorities.
Commitment #3: Do our best job possible. Taking no matter lightly, with our assurance we will attempt to do the best that we can to offer you a safe, and hopefully enjoyable racing experience. We will listen to your concerns, and if we feel it would better the racing environment, we will take steps to improve our procedures toward that goal.
With the commitments out of the way, let’s move on to some other topics, with the first being:
- SAFETY We highly recommend that all drivers’ safety equipment get upgraded to a Snell 2015 rating and be SFI/1 approved. The Rule book will specify exact requirements/specifications. The condition of your equipment is important to us and may be monitored. Absolutely no speeding by any vehicle in the pit areas. Always drive SLOW & CAUTIOUS as you are driving through any of our pit areas! Any race vehicle that poses a safety issue on the racetrack: (protruding bumper, sharp metal exposed, etc.) will be directed to pit area. In a racing accident, unless there is a fire or strong gas smell, stay in your car until addressed that you may get out by a safety crew member. If you get out of the car before-hand, then you will be DQed. No foul-language or movement/gestures toward other drivers or race officials will be tolerated. When the sweep crew, safety crew, or wrecker is on the racetrack, weaving, or scuffing tires is prohibited. Occasionally a race official may be instructed to pull your car out of line to inspect for damage. While our race officials are prohibited from making any repairs or adjustments to your car, you must obey any instructions received from a race official.
- Entering/Leaving Race Track All cars enter the racetrack at Turn 3 opening, with permission of Turn 3 flagman. All cars exiting the racetrack will use Turn 2 opening, remembering to slow down. Your view of pit road is somewhat obstructed coming over the hump and very close. If you are attempting to exit race track it is a good idea to wave your hand/arm as a signal to other drivers that may be following that you are slowing to exit. -Race Event Schedule This schedule will be posted at the pit gate early in the afternoon. Please pay attention to PA announcers as any last-minute changes will be announced. -Driver Registration/Starting Positions Race starting-positions and qualifying order will be determined by pill-draw held at the pit gate. All drivers will need to ‘Register’ with your pill-draw. You must register before going on the racetrack for practice!
- Drivers Meeting A face-to-face drivers meeting will take place before any Qualifying or Racing Events begin. All drivers are required to attend. Any last-minute event updates or changes in procedures (such as Tech requirements) will be discussed at that time.
- Qualifying Only designated classes (Per Race Schedule) will qualify. Drivers will pull a pill on the way in the gate the pill will determine which group they will qualify with. Each group will consist of 3 cars running 5 laps. (Cars will have distance in between) Not all 5 laps must be completed. Driver has the option to run 1-5 laps of the session. Driver MUST qualify in their group by the pill number, his/her fast lap time is at stake. After qualifying the fast time car pull pills for inversion; The top 5 cars will go to tech Any spin or stopping will nullify that lap. If a lap is missed by scoring, the flagman will be instructed to control. In the event of a tie, the faster ‘Other’ lap will determine. If that’s a tie the ‘First car out’ will determine.
- Heat Races and Staging Heat races may or may not be run according to classes and schedule. Please be ready when called to go to staging area and line up for your race.
-Race Initial Starts/Restarts Race initial starts and restarts are ultimately controlled by Official/Starter. Cooperation is needed between pole sitter and flagman to start a race successfully. Pole sitter of race determines the pace and will initiate the start or fire-off at the Turn 4. Pace-car speed is what we expect the pace to be when starting a race. Speeding up or slowing down could result in being sent to the rear! Jumping a start may result in a warning to the offending driver, if this occurs a second time that driver will be placed at the rear of the field.
- Complete Restarts On the initial start of the race, if a yellow/red flag occurs, with 0 laps being completed, all cars shall be placed in their original starting position for the restarting of the race. Any cars that have exited the track must start at the rear upon returning.
- Scoring Cars are scored at the Start/Finish line. Regarding restarts, all cars are scored from the last completed lap. When a race finish is determined by time constraint the finish order may be the order in which the last restart occurred.
- Lapped/Slow Cars Lapped cars will always obey flagman’s move-over flag or instructions. Lapped/Slow traffic will move high, (To the outside lane) if possible. Lapped cars will fall to the tail of the field on all restarts!
- After the Checkered Flag Please remember we do have a 11:00pm curfew. Occasional adjustments to schedule or changes to event length may be necessary to finish on time. With time allowing we generally invite the top-three finishers to remain on the racetrack at the Victory area in front of main flag stand, for pictures and interview. Pit crew and associates can join in. No riding on, or in, race car with driver is permitted. Do not forget to report directly to Tech Area, if required.
